Joyful Praise (Psalm 100:1~5)
1 Psalm 100 A psalm. For giving thanks. Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
We are His (100:1–2)
The hundredth psalm is a song of grateful praise to the LORD. All the earth is called upon to approach God with glad hearts and shout and sing with joy. Although the psalmist uses commands, this worship is not forced. Rather, the motivation comes from God’s revelation of Himself. It springs out of a certain knowledge that the LORD is our God. He is our Creator, and He calls us His very own. We belong to Him as though we were the sheep of His pasture. Because of the depth of this loving relationship, we may boldly come to Him with worship that expresses our gratitude and joy.
- What is your attitude as you enter into the presence of the Almighty King? How does His love and acceptance motivate you to worship Him?
His Love Endures (100:3–5)
The LORD has not only revealed Himself to His people—He has come close and has made His dwelling place among them. He therefore invites them to enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. He is always ready to receive His people. Seasons come and go, and circumstances constantly change, but the goodness, love, and faithful acceptance of God endures forever. No matter the condition of our hearts or the circumstances around us, our Lord has promised to never abandon us and to always welcome us. We can find comfort in this truth. In response to God’s special kindness, we can celebrate His love and faithfulness that continues generation after generation.
- How does God’s enduring love motivate you to praise Him? How will you be faithful to Him in light of His constant grace?
A letter to God
Father, I worship You for creating me and calling me Your own. Forgive me when I fail to give You proper worship, and realign my heart with Yours so that I can boldly enter into Your presence and experience Your faithfulness and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
